About Bonsai Art

Bonsai Art Nursery and SchoolBonsai Art Pty Ltd, established in 1975, as importers, wholesalers and retailers of pots, tools, all requirements and accessories for bonsai.

In 1988 on the purchase land at Terrey Hills, we opened a Bonsai Nursery.

In 2002 Brian & Megumi Bennett were joined at the nursery by their son Alex, who spent 2 years studying bonsai professionally in Japan. Both Megumi and Alex are qualified horticulturists. Megumi also received the bonsai instructors certificate from Nippon Bonsai Association Japan.

In 2014 we relocated our nursery, bonsai and ikebana teaching by Megumi and Alex to "Hidden Orient" 206-208 Forest Way, Belrose.

About Megumi Bennett

Megumi Bennett Megumi Bennett gained her B.A. in English Literature in Tokyo, Japan. On arriving in Australia in 1974 she continued to develop the bonsai and ikebana skills she had learnt in Japan. Megumi is a graduate of the Ryde School of Horticulture, where she also taught bonsai. In 1999 she founded the Bonsai Society of Sydney inc and is also a member of the Nippon Bonsai Association and Ikebana International.

For many years Megumi has given demonstrations, exhibitions and workshops throughout Australia and overseas. She has been interviewed on both radio and television. Megumi also is a contributor to articles on bonsai in Australia and overseas. Her first solo exhibition took place at the Japan Foundation Sydney in 1997. In 2018 at the Japan Foundation Sydney, Megumi and Alex held a bonsai exhibition "Australian Native Figs".

Megumi received the bonsai instructors qualification from the Nippon Bonsai Association, Japan in 2008. She is the first overseas person to receive this recognition. She qualifies as a bonsai artist, teacher, demonstrator and lecturer not only in Japan but internationally as well.

About Alex Bennett

Alex Bennett

Alex is a qualified horticulturist, arborist and in conservation and land management.

Specialising in bonsai, an art he has been studying since 1996, which included a 2 year apprenticeship and intensive training at the pre-eminent bonsai nursery Mansei-en in Japan.

He currently teaches bonsai and manages his nursery Bonsai Art Pty Ltd at Belrose, Sydney; as well as runs his garden and bonsai maintenance business, Quiet Garden.

Quiet Garaden operates across Sydney, with Alex providing high quality service where he uses his intimate knowledge and experience to provide garden consultation and advice, specialized pruning, hedging and styling of trees and plants. He also offers a bonsai service for your trees, onsite or pick-up and delivery.
